Stroke and Brain Injury

Stroke Support

The sudden impact of a stroke affects you but also your family and friends. Communication difficulties after stroke such as word-finding and language problems (aphasia) or speech problems (apraxia or dysarthria) often persist beyond initial hospital services. That is where we come in. The brain can and will continue to make connections and recovery. When you work with us at Beyond Words, you are no longer a patient, you are a person reconnecting with their world.

We follow a person-centred philosophy to stroke intervention called the Life Participation Approach to Aphasia. This means that we help you reconnect with your life and achieve goals that are meaningful in a life context. This could include anything from daily conversations with family and friends, participating in meetings at work or returning to volunteering in your community.
