Parkinson’s Disease

About Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s Disease can affect your voice and speech clarity. This can make it hard to connect with loved ones and friends as well as fully participate at work and in your community. If your voice is quieter or more hoarse, techniques such as vocal function exercises may be used to increase your vocal effort. To allow you to participate more fully in conversations with others, exercises and strategies may be recommended to improve and maintain the clarity of your speech.

Parkinson’s can also affect your ability to eat and drink easily. We can teach you how to manage challenges with swallowing so you can more safely participate in mealtimes with family and friends.

At Beyond Words, we will see you in your home, either in person or virtually (Zoom), to assess your voice, speech and swallowing function.  We are trained in Lee Silverman Voice Therapy (LSVT) as well as other evidence-based approaches.
