Supported Conversation & Partner Training

Supported Conversation is an approach developed by the Aphasia Instutite in Toronto and has been accepted worldwide as an evidence-based method that leads to better communication for and with those living with aphasia. Supported Conversation is a set of techniques that puts responsibility on both partners to encourage conversation by using spoken and written keywords, body language and gestures, hand drawings and other pictograph materials.

Supported Conversation changes the environment so communication is more successful at home and in the community. By using Supported Conversation techniques, you are enriching everyday conversation while you are working to improve your speech and language skills.

Conversation is a shared activity. We feel it is important to support the individual and their communication partners to reduce communication barriers and help those living with aphasia return to life’s conversations.
